Fire Design Courses

Our fire warden training gives your staff the knowledge they need to act with confidence and gives you the evidence that they are competent persons under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.

Fire manager training builds on our fire warden training. It’s designed for anyone with a specific role in managing fire safety arrangements. We take account of the environment you manage and the realities of the role, whether that’s a dedicated, near full-time responsibility or a bolt-on to wider building or facilities management duties.

Our bespoke fire design courses are for organisations and individuals with a stake in fire safety this varies from auditing, fire design of buildings, fire resilience, or the fire safety arrangements required by insurers.

Fire Design Courses

We shape every course around your business.

We don’t rely on videos or PowerPoint. Our training is practical and discussion-led, and we check understanding as we work through the syllabus.

What’s covered:
• Fire safety law – the Fire Safety Order, the Responsible Person and fire safety governance
• Prevention and protection – the measures that keep your premises safe
• Fire alarm systems – how detection works, and using your fire alarm panel
• The fire emergency plan – raising the alarm, evacuation, roll call and assembly
• Investigation protocol – checking an activation safely and summoning the Fire Service
• Firefighting equipment – the fire triangle, classes of fire and when to use an extinguisher
• Liaison with the Fire Service – meeting crews and giving them the information they need

Fire warden courses run from a minimum of 90 minutes up to half a day, depending on your premises and needs.

Every delegate is named on a certificate that sets out the full syllabus covered. It gives you a clear audit trail showing that fire safety information and training have been provided – the foundation of competence, built on by your own ongoing training.

Building on our fire warden programme, our manager training considers:
• The fire emergency plan: a recap of the fire warden essentials and how the plan is put into practice
• Fire safety law: a clear, understandable overview of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005
• Risk, hazard and likelihood: to help you understand the hierarchy behind every fire risk assessment

We explain how fire safety arrangements break down into:

• Fire protection and design
• Fire prevention
• Maintenance
• Workforce knowledge
• Fire safety information
• Cooperation and coordination

Managing compliance in practice:

• Fire service audits
• Fire risk assessment reports
• Fire service correspondence
• Unwanted fire signals
• Learning from incidents
• Record keeping
• Fire doors
• Maintenance and upgrades

Fire manager courses run for a minimum of half a day, extending to a full day where additional parts of the syllabus are needed.

We cover every aspect of fire design set out in the functional requirements of the Building Regulations 2010, together with the fire safety management that underpins them:
• B1 – means of warning and escape
• B2 – internal fire spread (linings)
• B3 – internal fire spread (structure)
• B4 – external fire spread
• B5 – access and facilities for the fire service

Guidance and standards:

• Approved Document B – Volumes 1 and 2, including the most recent updates
• BS 9991 – fire safety in the design, management and use of residential buildings
• BS 9999 – fire safety in the design, management and use of buildings
• CLG fire risk assessment guides – applying the government guidance documents to all types of premises

We explain Available Safe Egress Time (ASET) and Required Safe Egress Time (RSET), and how the two relate in typical buildings
